Feed-In-Tariff (FITs)

Feed-In-Tariffs (FITs) is a new government scheme that pays you for generating electricity.

They have been introduced by the Government to increase the level of renewable energy in the UK towards our target of 15% of total energy from renewables by 2020 (up from under 2% in 2009).

As part of the proposed new feed-in-tariff the government will pay for all energy generated by your system, irrespective of if you use it yourself or sell it back to the grid. The amounts paid are in addition to any saving you will make by purchasing less electricity from your supplier and any income you earn from selling your surplus power to your electricity supplier.

  • A payment for all the electricity you produce, whether you use it yourself, or:
  • Export it into the grid, in which case you get an additional bonus payment, plus
