Wind Turbines - Assistance with Funding, UK
There are a number of options for funding your turbine:
Domestic Funding:
- Low Carbon Buildings Programme: You can get £1,000 per kW installed up to a maximum of £2,500, but the grant must be spent within six months and the property must meet a minimum level of energy efficiency. Alvesta can help you with meeting these requirements if your property currently falls short of them. All installations must be carried out by a registered installer under the Dti Clear Skies programme.
The Low Carbon Buildings Programme website is at www.lowcarbonbuildings.org.uk and application forms can be downloaded.
Commercial Funding:
- Businesses may qualify for a Carbon Trust interest free loan based on the amount of carbon emissions that the turbine will save. There is quite a complex formula that is used to calculate the loan that might be available (£1,000 for each 0.7 tonne of Carbon not emitted per year as a result of the project) and these loans are repayable over five years.
The Carbon Trust website is at www.carbontrust.co.uk and again the relevant forms are available for downloading.
- There are also regional grants available in some areas of the country through local renewable energy charities – such as Renewable Energy for Devon (RE4D).
- We offer finance at competitive rates of interest, from three different companies, such that in moderate wind sites the turbine will cover its finance costs.
There are a number of other schemes that fund small wind projects and it would be worth your while having a look at the following websites:
